Experts have said the extended lockdown in Victoria which are forcing people to live in a state of isolation is having a significant impact on mental health.

During the first lockdown, calls to Lifeline increased by more than 20 per cent and anecdotal stories from those living under the strict COVID-19 measures highlighted loneliness and lack of emotional outlets as key struggles.

A fear of contracting coronavirus coupled with the ongoing discontinuation of elective surgeries has also stopped Victorians from seeking medical treatment for conditions like cancer which many doctors warned could result in negative post-COVID health ramifications.
